Following widespread consultation across the industry, the phenolic resins sector is launching a CLP Task Force to deal with the challenges posed by REGULATION (EC) No 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures.
The CLP Task Force, which is a joint initiative between the European Phenolic Resins Association (EPRA) and the Unmodified Phenolic Resins (UPR) REACH Consortium will base its hazard assessment and classification approach around the recently agreed Position Paper on Substance Definition developed by the Solvent Resin Manufacturers.
The founder members of the CLP Task Force have already completed a significant amount of data collation and evaluation based on the ‘available data’ so far amassed and there is some hope that large numbers of resin polymers could be deemed non-hazardous in nature based on these outputs. The primary purpose of the Task Force is to provide a route of access to this analysis and, by doing so, to encourage a consistent approach to the notification of resinous substances and the subsequent classification of mixtures containing them.
